One of the biggest benefits I see in Vinyl is the simplicity it offers. It gives us a chance to disconnect from loading screens, connection settings, ads and algorithms. But, every now and then, a modern convenience just makes sense. We don’t sell turntables with bluetooth in them just because they exist. We think there is a real purpose to them. For some people, in certain situations, it’s really a question of why not?

So why not? Well some would say you lose audio quality. While this isn’t wrong, I don’t think it’s something that most of us need to worry about. I certainly don’t recommend getting a $3000 turntable with a $1000+ moving coil cartridge set up just to send it to some small powered speakers over bluetooth. That is a waste. As much as most of us would love an amazing listening station starting with the $4000 of gear before even getting to a speaker or amp, in 2024 there is less of us that can afford, either the cost or the space, to have such a set up.

For most of us, most of our listening will come from car speakers, small in-ear headphones, office or cafe speakers, or maybe your TV soundbar. A well designed pair of 4 inch bookshelf speakers will be a huge step up from all of those. If you pair those with what we would consider an good “entry-level” turntable like Audio Techinca’s LP60X (or anything under about $700ish), you are going to notice a significant improvement in sound quality compared to your normal listening habits whether you are running the signal along a cable or connecting over Bluetooth.

So that’s the main reason the Paul Pack BT exists, because there is no good reason why it shouldn’t. Our favourite little bookshelf speakers paired with the Bluetooth version of the AT-LP60X, the cheapest turntable that’s not shit. The lowest entry point that will improve your sound, look after your records, and give you years of vinyl listening bliss. In addition to all that, if you want to have your record player on one side of the room and your speakers on the other, go for it if that works for the space you have. Want to spin some midnight tunes, connect those bluetooth headphones. Having a BBQ? Spin that record inside, take the speaker outside. Decide you want to plug it in instead, go for it, adding bluetooth doesn’t take anything away from your turntable and vinyl experience if you just plug it the good old fashioned way.

So is the Paul Pack still the best start pack going? It sure is. If you have any reason at all to go wireless (except for power cables), or you want that headphone option, the Paul Pack BT is the one for you.

If you’d like to see what other upgrade options are out there while keeping things simple and compact, check out our “compact and simple” turntable range. After a bit more of a step up that offers a more traditional experience while indulging modern tastes, the Essential Modern Hi-Fi range might be the best place to look.

If you have any questions at all you can email us, use our live chat or pop into store. You might even have Paul himself walk you through the pack that started his very own vinyl journey.
